The Bougainvilla House exists to support children, adolescents, and young adults who are struggling with behavioral health and substance use issues through counseling, therapy and individualized treatment in a comfortable, home-like environment.

- Cici Kelly
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND INTERVENTIONISTMs. Kelly is responsible for the overall operations of the company. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. Ms. Kelly is a senior-level business development and sales executive with a diverse background that includes strategy, new business development, finance and sales leadership, with a proven track record in generating revenue.
Ms. Kelly has worked for several Fortune 500 companies during her career and is very involved in her community. She has served on numerous non-profit boards in the community, holding leadership positions and helping them raise much-needed funds.

- Kacey Benson
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIONMr. Benson is responsible for the daily operation of The Bougainvilla House, including accounting, finance and administrative compliance. He works closely with the CEO and Clinical Director to strategically plan for the organization’s future, ensuring that The Bougainvilla House is able to provide a valuable service to the community.
Mr. Benson received both his bachelor’s degree in management and his Master of Business Administration from Florida State University. He has extensive experience in nonprofit financial management.Kacey Benson

OFFICE MANAGERMs. Guerrieri was born and raised in South Florida. She attended American Heritage High School and recently graduated from Florida Technical College with a degree in Billing Specialist.
Ms. Guerrieri has extensive knowledge and experience in the medical field for the past 16 years, bringing a wealth of expertise in all areas of the front office. She strives to help each and every patient to the greatest of her abilities and also strives to go the extra mile.Chrissy Guerrieri
- Hara Wachholder, LMHC
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH MANAGERHara Wachholder is the Educational Outreach Manager of The Bougainvilla House, Family Therapy Center.
Hara is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida and received her Master’s degree in Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. Since 2012, Hara has served in various capacities within community behavioral health as well as substance abuse treatment.
Hara was proud to serve as the Clinical Director for the Bougainvilla House from December 2017- February 2020 and is grateful to bring her skill-set to the outreach/administrative side to serve as the voice of The Bougainvilla House and provide appropriate representation of the company as well as inform the community of the array of clinical services being provided on site. As Educational Outreach Manager, Hara focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with schools and community organizations to educate children, teens, young adults and their families on behavioral health as well as substance use and misuse.
Hara is a South Florida native and has a strong passion for working in the community and providing individuals and families with preventative and innovative services that will impact positive changes.
- Veronica Cartagena
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTORMrs. Cartagena is a bilingual professional with over 25 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing and Development. Is a member of Abandoned Pet Rescue and has chaired events and worked with multiple non-profit organizations for the past 14 years such as St. Anthony Catholic School, Stem Cell Cancer & Regenerative Medicine Research, Habitat for Humanity and Abandoned Pet Rescue.
Mrs. Cartagena is originally from Chile and grew up in Coral Gables who then became an American Citizen at 18. She has worked as an Individual Sales Representative for the largest Disability & LTC carrier and started her independent agency at age 27. For the past 14 years has worked in marketing and development for a prestigious concierge medical practice in Palm Beach Island. She enjoys everything tropical, reading and mud races and has a passion for helping kids and animals.
- Tia Dodge
DEVELOPMENT COORDINATORMs. Dodge is a native of Ft. Lauderdale graduating from Stranahan High School and receiving her bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness from Virginia Commonwealth University.
In past years, Ms. Dodge has taught middle school for the Broward County school system only to end up owning and operating her own daycare, The Children’s Place Preschool. Owning her own daycare gave her an extensive knowledge in business fundamentals, logistics, finance and administration as well as the passion for helping children at a young age.
- Dr. Lauren Serdencuk, RMFTI
THERAPISTDr. Lauren Serdencuk is from Queens, New York 1982. Lauren grew up around many cultures and continues to thrive in variety. Lauren obtained her Bachelors in Psychology at CUNY Queens College and then continued her education at Mercy College pursuing a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Lauren became immediately attracted to Murray Bowen’s model, especially the theory of sibling position. Lauren was also interested in Solution Focused Brief Therapy due to finding solutions instead of focusing on an individual’s past and assisted Lauren’s understanding of systemic thinking. Lauren interned at a residential facility for adolescents struggling with substance abuse.
Lauren relocated to Florida and started attending the doctoral program of Marriage and Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University in August of 2010. Throughout pursuing a doctoral degree, Lauren worked at several inpatient substance abuse facilities. During Lauren’s journey, she became a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) and is currently working on obtaining her MFT license. In the summer of 2016, Lauren was asked to discuss substance abuse within the family and the process of treatment on two different news stations, which introduced new possibilities.
Lauren currently resides in Davie, Florida with her husband Kenneth and Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Mila. Lauren’s interests include traveling, music, hockey, animals, learning about new cultures, and trying new activities. Lauren’s future goals include, but are not limited to, educating families on substance abuse, establishing foundations that assist individuals struggling with substance abuse that lack resources, and implementing animals in therapy.

I am fully trained in Adult, Child and Adolescent, Geriatric, Emergency and Addiction Psychiatry. I received my general and adult psychiatry training at University of Maryland/ Sheppard Pratt and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training from Johns Hopkins Medical Institution.
I was selected as a Top Psychiatrist in Stamford, CT by the International Association of Health Care Professionals (IAHCP) and spotlighted in the publication The Leading Physicians of the World 2014 Edition.

THERAPISTRocio Morris is a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Intern in the state of Florida.
She is a graduate from Florida International University with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. Over the past 3 years, she has been able to passionately guide clients towards a healthier life and facilitate their self-growth. She has focused largely on vulnerable populations where she has been able to work with a diverse culture to help individuals let go of residual hurt, manage urges to control addictions, gain coping skills and techniques, heal and grow from difficult experiences and learn how to better manage symptoms and emotions.
Rocio enjoys attending conferences and training, which has enabled her to begin to specialize in working with teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral issues and/or life transitions. Rocio uses the person-centered approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, MRI, and Solution-Focused Therapy, where she creates a safe space for clients to share their experiences and grow confidently. Furthermore, she also works with children to help manage emotions, improve behavior, and incorporate play therapy techniques to normalize and process life experiences and transitions.

THERAPISTDaphne Pozo is a registered Marriage and Family Therapist intern in the state of Florida. She received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Florida and received her Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University.
Daphne has spent the majority of her professional experience working with children/teenagers and their families. She has experience with a multitude of presenting problems including, but not limited to: adjustment disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, ADD/ADHD, sexual identity issues, suicidal ideations, substance use/abuse, family conflict, stress, eating disorders, trauma, and anger/disciplinary offenses.
Daphne views clients in terms of their relationships and, thus, utilizes a systemic and person centered therapeutic approach in order to cultivate a strong therapeutic alliance. She believes in the importance of exploring a family’s history in an attempt to create healthy boundaries between members and foster open communication.
Daphne enjoys working with children and teenagers because of their resilience. She believes that cultivating this resilience is pivotal on the road to recovery and personal success.

THERAPISTWilliam Barney is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern in the state of Florida and received his Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University.
For the past year and a half, he has been able to avidly steer clients towards a stronger life and enable their self-development. He has focused mostly on the substance abuse populations and with children where he has been able to work with a multitude of cultures to help individuals let go of lingering hurt and overcome mental and physical obstacles in their paths.
William believes that with a healthy mind comes a healthy body and encourages all of his clients to engage in an active lifestyle to and to learn strong coping skills for their stress.
William uses both Cognitive behavior therapy and Person-Centered approach in order to create a secure environment where clients are able to express themselves fully and openly. William is enthusiastic about therapy and believes that we all learn something new every day and feels that his clients teach him just as much as he guides them.
- Stephanie Byer, RMHCI
THERAPISTStephanie Byer is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the state of Florida and received her Masters of Arts degree in mental health counseling from the University of Central Florida.
Stephanie takes a holistic approach, aiming to treat the client as a whole. Her specialties include eating disorders, addictions, self-esteem, sibling abuse, and anxiety disorders. Her prior experiences include working with adolescents and adults at the residential and outpatient levels of care as well as children within an elementary school. She identifies as a body positive clinician as well as committed to Health at Every Size (HAES).
In session, she utilize therapeutic approaches including CBT, ACT, IFS, and expressive arts. She additionally has training in utilizing play therapy for children. She believes that people have the potential to accomplish amazing things through self-acceptance and reconnecting with parts of themselves that feel frightening, negative, or shameful.

THERAPISTKatherine is a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in the state of Florida. Katherine obtained both her B.S. Degree in Psychology and her M.S. Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. Over the past 3 years Katherine has been working with a diverse population of clients. She began her work with families and couples, working with many issues such as substance abuse, divorce, infidelity, trauma, and grief/loss. She then began working closely with children and families new to the Autism Diagnosis which aligned closely with her previous experience as an ESE PreK Teacher. Recently she has worked in treatment settings, both residential and outpatient, and here she grew her passion for working with individuals and families affected by severe substance abuse and mental health issues. Katherine has extensive experience working with addiction, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, anger, eating disorders and young adults diagnosed with schizophrenia. She uses a relational approach, facilitating clients in focusing on the relationships they have with their issues to empower them to not feel that they are their issues. Katherine uses evidenced based therapeutic interventions from modalities such as but not limited to, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and MRI. Katherine believes that addressing substance abuse and mental health issues through therapy gives the client an opportunity to realize their full potential. Therapy provides the client a safe space to explore their actions, free of judgement or bias, which in turn allows them to discover healthier ways to interact with the world around them.
- Tom Moody
CHAIR ELECTTom Moody grew up outside of Atlanta Georgia, but has called Fort Lauderdale his home since 1985. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has owned and operated local area businesses since 1991. He is the founder and President of Moody Insurance Group which has been doing business for over 20 years in downtown Hollywood.
Tom has had a parallel career since 2000 as a real estate developer and has developed, owned and operated multiple Self Storage facilities in Florida and Georgia under the USA Self Storage brand.
He has been active with the youth of our community through the Holiday Park soccer league and the Fort Lauderdale Indian Guides program. Tom currently serves as a board member of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport Aviation Advisory Committee for the city of Fort Lauderdale. Tom is a private pilot who enjoys boating, diving, fishing and snow skiing. Tom met Lory, his wife of 39 years, in the insurance industry and together they live in downtown Ft. - Marlene Aguero
SECRETARYMarlene Aguero, a native Californian, has resided in Fort Lauderdale for 28 years. After finishing school and moving to Florida she began a career in real estate and met her husband in 1989. In 1991 she left real estate to join efforts with her husband in his medical supply business.
During her 14-year career beside her husband she wore many hats: managing operations, customer service, marketing and human resources. In 2006 Marlene and her husband began a family with boy/girl twins. Today, she's dedicated to raising her children and volunteering in their classrooms at Nova University School. In her spare time, her passion is her service work with women in various fellowships and social networks. Being a woman in recovery for 9 years, she is especially committed to service work in 12-step programs. Being a stay-at-home mom affords her the flexibility and the time to carry the message of hope to others who struggle with addiction.
Marlene is a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, The Humane Society, The Heart Gallery, Broward Children's Center and the Museum of Discovery and Science. She looks forward to meeting the board members and contributing to the Bouganvilla House in a meaningful way.Marlene Aguero

- Lulrick Balzora
BOARD MEMBERLULRICK BALZORA is an educator who believes that treating individuals with respect should be an institution’s first priority. His academic interests cover theories from the social and behavioral sciences as they relate to problems in the philosophy of religion. He currently serves as the Academic Dean of the Social and Behavioral Sciences and Human Services at Broward College. Under his leadership, the college successfully launched the Associate of Science in Human Services program as well as the Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) technical certificate opportunity for students. In addition to his time at Broward College, Dr. Balzora served a combined 25 years on active and reserve duty in the U.S. Navy, most notably completing a tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and retiring from reserve service in 2010. Dr. Balzora earned his Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Palm Beach Atlantic University, Master of Arts in History from Southeastern Louisiana University, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and his Ph. D. in Higher Education Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
- Kerry Ross
BOARD MEMBERKerry Higgins Ross was raised in Tampa , Florida to 3rd Generation Floridian and Philadelphian mother. She attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta then transferred to Florida State University and graduated early Dec 1978 with BA in Communications with various minors. Out of college she worked in Miami on Burdines Executive Training Program with emphasis in Display/ Marketing . Then moving onto Delta Air Lines in Miami, and Chicago where she was an Inflight Service Supervisor. In 1989 she moved to Hong Kong where she worked part time within the fashion show industry and raised 3 children with her husband K. Pat Ross. They lived in Southeast Asia for 9 years and moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1998. Pat passed in 2018. She is a sustaining / supporting member of Junior League & Children’s Opportunity Group as well as former volunteer at Harbordale, St Marks Episcopal , St Thomas Aquinas and St. Andrew’s Episcopal in Boca Raton. Currently she is active at All Saints Episcopal Church and former Board Member of Our House and El Centro both small organizations in Fort Lauderdale. She continues to support charities close to her heart such as Jack n Jill, Laundry Love and Beds Around the Altar are a few of her favorites.
- Kathy Trebbi
TREASURERKathy Trebbi grew up in a small town outside of Chicago where most of her early childhood was spent teaching English equitation and riding hunters and jumpers. Kathy attended college locally and then moved to Providence, RI where she receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management and an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University. Shortly after, Kathy moved to South Florida to take Graduate Classes in Hospitality Management at Florida International University and has been a Florida Resident since 1984. Kathy served ClubCorp for 28 years, primarily as the General Manager of the Tower Club in downtown Fort Lauderdale. She also served as a Regional Manager for the Southeastern Region for many years while managing the Tower Club. After working for ClubCorp, Kathy became the General Manager at the Members’ Club at PGA National Resort & Spa as well as serving on the Executive Committee of PGA National Resort & Spa, home to the Honda Classic. In 2012, Kathy left hospitality to become the COO of Trebbi Custom Construction in an effort to be closer to family. In addition to chairing a number of task forces and initiatives nationally with ClubCorp Kathy has been actively involved in the local community including Broward Public Library Foundation’s Byblos Night of Literary Feasts, Broward Alliance, Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and Fort Lauderdale’s Museum of Art. Kathy is currently a Member of the Executives Association of Fort Lauderdale and has served on the board of Special Olympics, Presidents Council and Tower Forum. She also served as the Vice Chairman of the Southeastern Alumni Association for Johnson & Wales University. Kathy has been recognized as one of the “100 Outstanding Women of Broward County” sponsored by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County and as an “Up ‘n Comer” by the South Florida Business Journal. Kathy enjoys family time with her husband, Ron and daughter, Allison. Allison began her college career in the Summer of 2019 at the University of Florida Prior to college, much family time was spent dedicated to travel softball. While being empty-nesters, Kathy and Ron enjoy travelling, shooting sporting clays, fishing, boating, cooking and entertaining.
- Diane Cavuoto
INVESTMENT COMMITTEE CHAIRDiane Cavuoto earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Storrs campus at the University of Connecticut. She has also earned her Masters in Business from the W.P. Carey School of Business executive program at Arizona State University. She is the SVP of Supply Chain at CTS Engines, an independent engine repair facility, responsible for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of CF6 gas turbine engines. In this role, she is responsible for the availability of parts supply to the business. This includes Production Control, Planning, Procurement, Receiving, Shipping and Warehousing. She joined the company in December of 2017 and resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Prior to her current position, Diane was the VP of Strategic Sourcing in Aerospace at Honeywell. In this role, she was responsible for $4B of spend. Her team provided strategic direction for supplier selection and relationship management. She was responsible for productivity, supplier performance, transitions and general management activities. Her global team consisted of approx. 200 employees. Prior to that, Diane held several executive roles at Honeywell as VP of Sourcing Operations, VP of Indirect Sourcing and VP of Major Subcontracts. In these roles, she was responsible for $1B+ of indirect spend, supplier transition planning, eAuction execution, contract negotiations, supplier claims, Defense and Space proposal submittals, compliance to Purchasing and Estimating systems and overall project management. Diane has also held roles at Honeywell as a Business Director within the commercial business market segments managing a P&L of $100M+. She also served as the Director of Operations on the board of the Honeywell/GE joint venture with the CFE Company. Throughout her career, Diane has held positions of increasing responsibility in Engineering, Customer & Product Support, and Six Sigma. Diane joined Honeywell in 1985 through a predecessor company, Avco Lycoming. She is Six Sigma Black Belt and Design for Six Sigma certified.
- David Scully
BOARD MEMBERDavid Scully was born in St. Thomas USVI. Is a St. Thomas Aquinas High School Alumni and graduated from Nova Southeastern University Law School. He has been married to Calla Scully for 20 years and has two children, Cooper and Holden. David is a partner at Loving Scully Law Group, PLLC, a boutique law firm that specializes in estate planning, tax planning and corporate law. Charitable Involvement – Community Foundation – Professional Advisors Committee; President of East Broward Lacrosse, Inc. – a 501c3 for youth lacrosse (boys and girls ages 5-14); former board member at St. Mark’s Episcopal School, former board member Islamorada Fishing and Conservation Trust, former board member Brian Piccolo Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, former Steering Committee member of the Annual Joint Tax and Estate Planning Seminar; former legal officer at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
- Carrie Andersen
BOARD MEMBERCarrie Anderson is married and a mother of two children. She is currently employed as Compliance Counsel at Pine Crest School. Carrie was previously a private practitioner and family law mediator. Before practicing family law, Carrie focused her practice as a civil litigator. She has experience as a Certified Legal Intern for the Broward County Public Defender - Juvenile Division and as a judicial intern for the Executive Office of Immigration in Miami. Carrie received her law degree (JD) from the University of Miami in 2002 and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University in 1998. Carrie is currently a graduate student at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh to obtain her Masters in Public Policy and Management degree. Charitable Involvement – Carrie is currently serving her first year of a three year term as Past Chair of the Christ Church School (CCS) Board. She has served as the Chair, Legal Adviser, Development Chair, and Representative of the CCS Board. Carrie also served as both the President, Vice President, and Co-Chair of the CCS Parent Teacher Organization. In her free time, Carrie enjoys reading, yoga, training for half marathons, and spending time with her husband, children, and puppies.
- Beth Malkin
BOARD MEMBERBeth Malkin has lived in Fort Lauderdale for 14 years. Grew up between New York and Gainesville, FL. Has three children, two at Pinecrest and one at Virginia Shuman Young Elementary. Beth earned her undergraduate at University of Florida, MSW Graduate. She is currently working as an independent contractor for Early Steps. Home visits for families with children 0-3 years old needing direct services. Beth currently works at Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center, Fort Lauderdale FL MSW/ITDS (Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist). Early in her career she worked at Central Park Early Learning Center, NYC. Provided outreach and play therapy to pre-school aged children, Children's Aid Society Provided counseling and outreach to children and families in East Harlem, Lexington School for the Deaf, NYC School Mental Health Team, UCSF Center on Deafness, San Francisco CA Clinical Therapist, School Mental Health for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Parent Education.
